What is This Opportunity?

The Co-Op student will assist in the development and analysis of products, materials, processes, or equipment. Under direct supervision/guidance, he/she will compile, analyze, test, and research data for newly designed or modified airbags and parts. This is a great opportunity for a student to gain experience in the automotive industry, working with a dynamic team of professionals from around the globe. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Undertakes and successfully completes simple or basic project/product development tasks.
  • May assist in inventing / creating concepts and designs/approaches for new products.
  • Create sample requests for customer orders, validate parts/components for special builds.
  • Designs and coordinates engineering tests and experiments.
  • Support team on shipping parts and delivering samples to local customers.  
  • Create new part numbers and bill of materials (BOM) and release engineering orders (EO) in JSS systems.  
  • Issue CAD work orders for new drawings or current drawing modification. 
  • Prepares standard reports/documentation to communicate results to technical team.
  • Completes basic tasks on engineering documentation.
  • SolidWorks and Auto CAD knowledge is a plus.

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Must be currently enrolled in a Co-Op program with an accredited College or University as a full-time student.
  • Pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Must have and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Self-motivated, able to perform role with minimal supervision, taking ownership, with a sense of urgency.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to work in a team environment to consistently achieve results.
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, SolidWorks, and Auto CAD
  • Knowledge of related engineering discipline functional and technical skills.
  • Professional oral communication and writing skills.  

 

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions 

  1. Ability to lift 25 lbs
  2. Standing/Walking

 

Work Schedule/Location

  1. Required to work on-site work at our JSS Auburn Hills location.  Remote work is not eligible for this position.
  2. Travel requirements- may travel locally as well as to a plant in Mexico or Moses Lake, WA
  3. May work between 20-40 hours per week, not to exceed 1,200 annually.  
  4. Local candidates only.  Relocation/housing benefits not offered.  

 

Additional Information The base compensation range for this role is: $23.00-$27.00.  The actual hourly wage offered will consider the candidate’s current academic level and degree candidacy. It will comply with state or local minimum wage requirements specific to the job location.
