Job Summary: Purchasing Commodity Manager – Automotive (Cost Engineering Focus)

Location: Auburn Hills
Reports To: Executive Director, Purchasing

Role Overview

The Purchasing Commodity Manager is responsible for sourcing strategies and supplier management for assigned commodities within an automotive Tier 1 environment. This role integrates cost engineering expertise to ensure competitive pricing, robust cost analysis, and value optimization across the supply chain.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute commodity strategies aligned with corporate goals.
• Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms with global suppliers.
• Perform cost breakdowns and build cost models to validate supplier quotes.
• Drive value engineering initiatives to achieve design-to-cost objectives.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Program Management, and Finance on new launches.
• Monitor market trends and mitigate supply chain risks.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, or Business (advanced degree preferred).
• 5+ years in purchasing or commodity management within automotive/manufacturing.
• Strong cost analysis and negotiation skills; knowledge of manufacturing processes.
• Proficiency in ERP systems and cost modeling tools.

Performance Metrics (KPIs)

• Annual Cost Savings: Achieve targeted cost reductions.
• Cost Model Accuracy: Maintain ±5% variance from actual costs.
• Supplier Performance: >95% on-time delivery; PPM below threshold.
• Value Engineering Impact: Measured in $ savings per project.

Program Launch Readiness: 100% sourcing completed by milestones
