Senior Shipping & Receiving Clerk

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Shipping & Receiving Clerk to oversee daily shipping, receiving, inventory control, and material handling operations. The ideal candidate will have extensive forklift experience, a strong understanding of warehouse logistics, and experience handling and shipping hazardous materials in compliance with DOT, OSHA, and company requirements. Experience with Class 9 hazardous materials is required, and Division 1.4 hazardous materials experience is preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and perform all shipping and receiving activities.
  • Verify incoming shipments against packing slips, purchase orders, and bills of lading.
  • Prepare outbound shipments, including packaging, labeling, and documentation.
  • Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Load and unload trucks while ensuring product integrity and safety.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and perform cycle counts.
  • Process shipments using shipping software systems.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA, and company safety requirements.
  • Prepare and review hazardous materials shipping documentation.
  • Properly package, mark, label, and store hazardous materials.
  • Coordinate with carriers, vendors, and internal departments to resolve shipping discrepancies.
  • Maintain organized warehouse and storage areas.
  • Train and assist junior shipping and receiving personnel as needed.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to increase efficiency and accuracy.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 5 years of shipping, receiving, warehouse, or logistics experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of forklift operation experience.
  • Current forklift certification or ability to obtain certification.
  • Experience handling and shipping Class 9 hazardous materials.
  • Knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and hazardous materials regulations.
  • Experience preparing shipping documents, bills of lading, and carrier paperwork.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and inventory/shipping software.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in a warehouse environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience handling Division 1.4 hazardous materials.
  • Hazmat shipping certification or training.
  • Leadership or supervisory experience in a warehouse environment.
  • Experience with inventory control and cycle counting programs.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting.
  • Ability to safely operate forklifts and material handling equipment.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures.
  • Ability to lift, move, and transport materials weighing up to 50 pounds.

Preferred Candidate Profile: Experienced shipping and receiving professional with strong forklift skills, demonstrated hazardous materials handling experience, and the ability to maintain compliance while supporting a fast-paced manufacturing or distribution operation. Division 1.4 hazardous materials experience is highly desirable.
