Director, HR

The HR Director – Mexico (Automotive Manufacturing) is responsible for leading the countries’ HR strategy in alignment with business objectives while ensuring compliance with Mexico labor laws and Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs), and industry specific regulations. This role plays is critical in managing union negotiations, workforce planning, employee relations, and HR operations to support high-volume production in a fast-paced automotive manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will have experience in automotive leadership HR leadership, labor relations, other HR areas like talent acquisition, talent management, and employee engagement. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in labor negotiations, workforce management, and optimizing HR practices to support operational efficiency and employee well-being.
Key Responsibilities:
1. HR Strategy & Leadership
Develop and implement HR strategies to support manufacturing operations and workforce efficiency.
Collaborate with plant managers and senior leadership to align HR initiatives with production goals.
Ensure HR policies, programs, and procedures comply with local labor laws and collective agreements.
2. Labor Relations & Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBA)
Lead union negotiations and manage labor relations to maintain a stable and productive workforce.
Interpret and administer CBAs, ensuring compliance and minimizing labor disputes.
Act as the primary contact for labor unions and work councils.
Implement proactive employee relations strategies to reduce grievances and disputes.
3. Workforce Planning & Talent Development
Oversee recruitment and workforce planning to ensure adequate staffing levels for production needs.
Develop strategies to reduce turnover and improve retention of skilled labor.
Partner with regional Talent Management team to implement training programs focused on leadership development, technical skills, and safety compliance.
4. Employee Relations & Compliance
Ensure adherence to Mexican labor laws, CBAs, and industry-specific safety regulations.
Provide leadership on employee relations, conflict resolution, and disciplinary actions.
Promote a culture of engagement, productivity, and workplace safety.
Partner with health & safety teams to ensure compliance with labor and safety regulations.
5. Compensation, Benefits & Payroll
Manage compensation and benefits programs in compliance with CBAs and market benchmarks.
Oversee payroll processing to ensure accuracy, compliance, and alignment with labor agreements.
Partner with regional Compensation and Benefits team to conduct wage analysis and negotiate salary adjustments in collaboration with finance and union representatives.
6. HR Operations & Performance Management
Oversee HR operations, HRIS systems, and data reporting for workforce analysis.
Partner with regional HRIS team to provide HR metrics and analytics to support strategic workforce planning.
Partner with regional Talent Management team to implement performance management processes to drive efficiency and operational excellence.
Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Law, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
10+ years of HR leadership experience, preferably in a unionized manufacturing environment.
Strong expertise in Mexican labor laws, CBAs, and labor negotiations.
Experience working in a high-volume automotive production or industrial setting.
Proven ability to manage large, diverse workforces and drive HR process improvements.
Fluent in Spanish and English.
